The Voice of Parents for Pinellas Students

P4PS

Parents for Pinellas Students (P4PS) is a campaign that gives parents a voice in Pinellas County public education. P4PS is sponsored by the Pinellas County Council of Parent Teacher Associations (PCCPTA) and the Pinellas Education Foundation. P4PS surveys parents on topical education issues in Pinellas County. The results are shared with the community and the school district, including the superintendent and school board.

P4PS was developed to engage parents as partners to improve public education, starting with giving them a voice. Major decisions made in Pinellas County public education should include the voices of parents and taxpayers.

Surveys are conducted periodically throughout the school year. Dewey & associates conducts exploratory focus groups to identify the issues most important to parents, which serves as the basis for developing the survey questions.  Parents are informed of the surveys through the PCCPTA and Pinellas Education Foundation.

Pinellas County Council of Parent Teacher Associations
The mission of the Pinellas County Council of Parent Teacher Associations (PCCPTA) is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children. As the largest volunteer child advocacy association in the nation, Parent Teacher Association® (PTA) reminds our country of its obligations to children and provides parents and families with a powerful voice to speak on behalf of every child while providing the best tools for parents to help their children be successful students. PTA does not act alone. Working in cooperation with many education, health, safety, and child advocacy groups and federal, state and local agencies, PTA collaborates on projects that benefit children and that bring valuable resources to its members.

Pinellas Education Foundation
The Pinellas Education Foundation's (PEF) mission is to enhance and improve educational opportunities in Pinellas County Schools. Serving the county's K-12 public schools, students and teachers since 1986, PEF is a liaison between the private sector and the public school system. By providing avenues for business, industry and community involvement in public education, PEF has raised more than $110 million for some of the most ambitious educational partnership initiatives in the U.S.

dewey & associates
The surveys are conducted by dewey & associates (d&a), a 13-year-old Tampa Bay management and strategy consulting practice experienced in giving key education stakeholders a voice that otherwise would not exist. In Florida, d&a also does this for the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations through the Voice of Florida Business in Education (
www.voiceineducation.org). d&a has worked with foundations and school districts throughout the nation on topics including obesity prevention, teen tobacco prevention, juvenile justice reform and education reform.

Parents for Pinellas Students (P4PS) believes that students need the voice of engaged parents and communities to ensure their education prepares them for a productive and satisfying future whether the choice is to attend college, enter the workforce or obtain technical training suited to their career interests.

P4PS believes that individually and collectively, the primary obligation of Board of Education members and legislators is to listen to parents, the single most important group of taxpayers funding public education.  Their voice matters most.
